Honey-Poached Pears

   Build the poaching liquid: Combine water, honey, cinnamon, cloves, and lemon peel in a wide saucepan. Bring to a low simmer, stirring until the honey dissolves.

   Add the pears: Carefully place the pear halves cut-side-down in the syrup. They should be mostly submerged — top up with a splash of water if needed.

   Poach gently: Cover and simmer for 18–22 minutes, turning the pears once halfway through, until a knife slides easily into the thickest part.

   Reduce the syrup: Transfer pears to a bowl. Simmer the poaching liquid uncovered for 6–8 minutes until it thickens to a light glaze.

   Serve: Plate two pear halves per bowl. Drizzle generously with the warm honey syrup and finish with a spoonful of pear preserve.
